Innovation
Innovation is a word that is very widely used nowadays. Still it describes U-Conts way to develop work and products. Today it is usual that the projects are made in many small pieces with poor process communication. One company does the design work, other does metal work and finally assembling company does the rest. In U-Cont we can do all this in one company. Why? Because that is how everyone can see what other people are doing and give feedback of it. That helps new ideas and out of box thinking to come and effect our way to do work. That is called an innovation. Innovation can be small or big, it doesn’t matter. The thing that matters is that the innovation works.
One of our older innovations is Muurikka. That is a good example of it that tank isn’t just a tank. When one of the company’s founders, Reijo Sistonen, was doing the metal work in the factory, one customer came in. The customer asked from Reijo that is it possible to cut old laundry kettle’s bottom off, that he can make crepes with it. Reijo said that he will make the customer a better pan. Reijo took one of tanks man cover waste plates, pressed it and gave it to customer. That became as a business idea, Muurikka, which have nowadays been sold almost a million pieces.
Other good example of this kind of innovation is new HFB-tank. (HeavyFuel/Bitumen) It is a tank that has one layer less and better client performance with lower price. Tank is not only a tank anymore! In the development project of this tank were people with different backgrounds, engineers, salesmen and sheet metal workers and all of them were equally important to this project.
